Current regulations governing the siting of oil tanks can often make it difficult to find a suitable location around any properties to position a new tank.

Oil tanks need to adhere to the following regulations:

1. 1.8m away from non fire rated eaves
2. 1.8m away from a non fire rated building or structure (ie garden shed)
3. 1.8m away from openings
4. 1.8m away from oil fired boiler flues
5. 760mm away from a non fire rated boundary such as a wooden fence
6. 600mm away from any screening

If it is impossible to achieve some of these requirements then a fire protection barrier will need to be installed – as seen in the banner picture on this page.

A suitable base extending 300mm all the way round the tank will also need to be provided.

We recommend a solid concrete base of minimum 150mm. Bonded tanks from Atlantis, Harlequin and Titan can be quoted for or if you already have a bonded tank we are happy to quite for fitting it including a new based and any protection that may be needed.
